Top Tips for Dance Teachers Heading Back to the Studio
Acrobatique’s Top Tips for Dance Teachers Heading Back to the Studio
By Lisa Claydon of the Acrobatique AcroDance Syllabus
At Acrobatique, we love getting back into the studio, whether it’s for a new season/term, or just after a short holiday break. Getting the chance to step back and refresh yourself as a teacher means you return to your classes with newfound energy and ideas. Read on to discover our three favourite tips for heading back to the studio!
3. Find new inspiration!
When you’re busy teaching each night, it can be hard to set aside time for exploring new ideas. When you have a break from teaching, dedicate some time to re-inspiring yourself. Take a drop-in class; attend a certification course; see a show; find new music that you are excited about. When you re-fuel yourself, you become a better teacher.
2. Set goals for your classes (and make them known!)
Time away from the studio gives you the space to reflect on your classes, and what you’d like them to achieve upon your return. Try mapping out what you want your students to accomplish this season. Then, share this information with them so that everyone is on the same page. It’s also great to think about any classroom management issues you have been having, and how you can address these issues through new policies. Again, be transparent with your students and tell them your new expectations right away, so that there isn’t time for them to slip back into old habits.
1. Get organized with set systems!
When you’re organized with your classes, you accomplish more, and your students progress faster. When you go back to the studio, make sure your lesson plans are up to date and you have all your syllabus materials in order. Acrobatique offers set programming options for teachers who want to follow a set system and have their lesson planning done for them: the KinderAcro Program is for students 18 months – 6 years old, and the Acrobatique 101 Program is for beginner acrobats ages 6 and up. You can find more information on both of these programs HERE!
Whenever you have time off from the studio, you have the chance to “up your game” and come back as an even better version of you! Find inspiration, set goals, get organized, and see your students flourish! From all of us at Acrobatique, we wish you a wonderful season of dance!
